Can ChatGPT or Gemini book clients into your chair? It depends what "book" means—and which calendar you run. As of the sources below (checked November 6, 2026), consumer AI chat can discover some marketplace appointments, and connected developer tools can talk to Square's APIs. That is not the same as ChatGPT answering your shop's phone and holding a deposit for a sew-in.

What Fresha launched for ChatGPT and Claude

On August 4, 2026, Fresha published that clients can use ChatGPT and Claude to discover beauty and wellness appointments through Fresha's marketplace, then complete booking and payment on Fresha (Fresha blog).

Fresha says:

  • Search uses everyday language ("haircut this afternoon," "massage after work").
  • Results use live marketplace availability, pricing, reviews, services and location.
  • Personal and payment details stay in Fresha's checkout; the assistants get availability through Fresha's public MCP server, not your card data in the chat.

That helps Fresha partners get discovered inside those assistants. It does not automatically book a private Square-only suite that isn't on Fresha.

What about Google Gemini?

Fresha's August 2026 announcement focuses on ChatGPT and Claude as the new native launches. Treat Gemini the same way you treat any assistant: only trust booking claims you can verify on the platform you use (Fresha help, Google docs, or your booking vendor). Don't assume Gemini can write into your Square calendar without a documented integration.

What Square publishes for AI assistants (MCP)

Square documents a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server in beta that bridges AI assistants to the Square REST API (Square MCP docs). Square lists integration paths for assistants such as Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Goose, Cursor and Windsurf, with a remote server at https://mcp.squareup.com/mcp and OAuth login.

Important limits from Square's own page:

  • The MCP server is beta.
  • Square recommends testing prompts against a Sandbox before production.
  • This is a connected developer / assistant bridge to Square APIs—not a public "any stranger in ChatGPT can book your chair" button.

So: an owner (or their builder) can connect a supported assistant to Square and work with bookings through the API surface. That is different from a client casually asking ChatGPT to grab your Saturday slot unless you have built and secured that path.

What still doesn't replace a shop phone agent

Even with marketplace chat discovery and MCP tools:

  • Most first-time clients still tap Call on Google Maps.
  • Square's built-in AI voice feature takes orders, not Appointments reservations (Square Support).
  • Deposits, named stylists, processing time and "don't book corrections without a consult" rules need a workflow that follows your policy every time.

Practical takeaway for beauty pros

GoalRealistic path today
Show up when people ask ChatGPT/Claude for a nearby serviceBe listed where those assistants search (e.g. Fresha marketplace per Fresha's announcement)
Let you manage Square from a connected AI toolSquare MCP (beta) + a supported assistant, tested in sandbox
Answer the shop line and collect a deposit mid-serviceAI receptionist or human coverage tied to your calendar (Square, Booksy, GlossGenius, etc.)

Where AyoCosmo fits

AyoCosmo covers the phone path for Square-based shops: answer, book from live Square availability, explain deposits, text the Square link. It is complementary to marketplace chat discovery, not a ChatGPT plugin.

The bottom line

ChatGPT can help clients find some beauty appointments through partners like Fresha, with checkout on Fresha. Square offers a beta MCP bridge so supported AI tools can use Square APIs—including bookings—when you connect and authorize them. Neither fact means ChatGPT or Gemini automatically runs your front desk. For missed calls and phone deposits, you still need a receptionist stack aimed at your number and your calendar.

Your hands stay on the client. Your shop’s line still books.

Each shop gets its own number and an agent that answers in your shop’s name, books into Square and texts the deposit link first.
